The Life of Lee (Audible Audio Edition) Lee Evans Penguin Books Ltd Books

Lee Evans is one of the best-loved comedians in the country; a Hollywood star able to sell out arenas in the blink of eye. But he was not always such a roaring success. Read unabridged by the man himself, the audiobook edition of The Life of Lee is an utterly hilarious and very moving autobiography, charting his ups and downs on the way to the top. Lee takes us on a darkly humorous journey through his childhood spent running wild on a Bristol housing estate and his unconventional school days, when he was publicly derided as 'a failure' by a sadistic teacher.
In this brilliantly entertaining and engaging tale, he also guides us through a grim teenage period of numerous dead-end jobs. When he was cleaning toilets and plucking turkeys, he could never have imagined that one day he would be playing to thousands of adoring fans at the O2 Arena. The reading also reveals how as a boy Lee got his first taste of showbiz, living out of a suitcase and accompanying his entertainer father around the smoky, rowdy, unforgiving working-men's club and theatre circuit. Desperately struggling to be accepted, this quiet young loner always saw himself as an outsider. But he finally met the love of his life and accidentally discovered the one place where he felt at home the stage. The Life of Lee is a story that is like its subject compelling, touching, charming and, above all, fantastically funny.

If I was to describe the author of this book, having never seen his stand up performances, which I haven't, I would say he is the eternal "poor me..... I was such a klutz and such a victim, but look at me now! I think it was an entertaining book no doubt but he just had to keep banging on about what a fool and useless person he always was and magically this Cinderfella turned into the prince. It became irritating. But, I liked some of the yarns he told about his life. Worth a read but not a rush out and buy it book. I'd like to see him on stage live and see if he does the poor old me stuff. Bet he's funny.Product details

The Life of Lee (Audible Audio Edition) Lee Evans Penguin Books Ltd Books Reviews
This was such an entertaining read - quirky, funny and packed full of childhood stories that resonated with my own. The only criticism for me is the book stops short of what you REALLY want to know about - his journey from comic through to Hollywood, the stage and where he is now. However am guessing there's a book 2 to follow up for end of 2012....which that had been made clear if so. Great pics too inside and on artwork - great photographer!
Very funny and intersting story of Lee Evans but I felt as though he dragged out the story a bit but other than that it is a very good read.
A bit repetative, and a bit too self -effacing. However, despite that it wss an entertaining read.
Entertaining
Ever heard about "the funiest guy in the world" ? This is him. This book is "the" origin of fun and laughter...
Hilarious
This is a great story of a loser who finally won it all. Evans philosophy of "never back down, never run from a fight" is what kept him going, although many, including Evans, consider him overly optimistic. In the end, his optimism - and ability to play to his strengths , loser as he may be - is what saves him.
